I first visited the Clos des Roses winery on a bright, sunny, May day over a lovely lunch with cold, crisp rosé. Used to frequently travelling to wedding venues on the French Riviera coast, usually to the East of Cannes where I am based, it is always a pleasure to leave the traffic lights and busy roads behind and head to the Var region of Provence. Located just off the A8 ‘autoroute’ at only half an hours drive from downtown Cannes, the Clos des Roses is a super charming wine-producing estate and the closest Cotes de Provence vineyard to the Cote d’Azur at only 40 minutes by car from Nice airport.

With a 7 bedroom luxury guest house, swimming pool, an excellent gastronomic restaurant managed by a top French chef, a superb function room, a beautiful chapel, rose gardens, vines and contemporary art sculptures, the Clos des Roses certainly ticks all the right boxes.

The Bastide du Clos, the Clos des Roses’ boutique hotel / luxury guest house, offers 3 different categories of tastefully decorated, spacious (from 25 to 35 metres squared) bedrooms. Room rates range from 150 Euros to 275 Euros per night including breakfast.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the Bastide du Clos’ gastronomic restaurant or on the delightful poolside terrace.

For wedding receptions, the Clos des Roses’ function room can be rented for groups of up to 200 people seated. This modern, luminous space is fully equiped with a 3 by 4 metre stage, sound & light equipment and all necessary chairs and tables. The 2011 rental fee for the exclusive use of the Clos des Roses is 4700 Euros TTC (inc. VAT) including cleaning and a house manager on duty for the duration of your event. Outside caterers can be brought in but the venue’s own chef can provide high quality catering at reasonable prices for events of any size. The venue obliges that clients consume the rosé variety of wine produced on site which is priced at an amazingly cheap 8.50 Euros TTC (inc. VAT) per bottle.

The Clos des Roses’ chapel located amongst the vines can be used for wedding ceremonies of any faith.

Events can be accompanied by a wine tasting session in the private ‘degustation’ room and a guided tour of the wine cellar and distillery.

The Château de Berne is a wine producing estate and boutique hotel situated on a private domain amongst 600 hectares of vineyards. The venue is located in the village of Lorgues, at 1 hour and 15 minutes drive from Nice airport and 1.5 hours from Marseille airport in the magnificently authentic Provence countryside.

The venue has 3 principal function spaces as detailed below:

The Jardin du Jasmin offers a large outdoor terraced area covered by an attractive marquee type structure which opens out onto the Château’s vineyards. This 260 metre squared event space can seat a maximum of 200 people in a natural, relaxed environment and is perfect for brunches, seated dinners and cocktail receptions.

The Salle de Bacchus is a 230 metre squared indoor function room with a seated capacity of 160 people allowing for a dance floor. This attractive space with its arches and white draping is ideally used for seated dinners, discos and live music.

The Scène sur l’eau, an amphitheatre with a 115 metre squared floating circular platform, offers an original outside space for wedding ceremonies and also doubles up as a heli pad for those who wish to arrive in style. The platform is large enough for approximately 70 to 80 chairs and tent structures can be constructed to provide shade for guests in the summer months.

The Château de Berne can provide catering for groups of 80 people and upwards and the venue’s chef offers a fabulously creative cuisine. The venue also offers a selection of the best wines produced on site as well as full open bar packages and a fabulous range of made to order wedding cakes. Food and Beverage provided by the Château de Berne is extremely reasonably priced with set menus ranging from 60 euros per head. If you prefer to use an outside caterer, the venue has no problem with this at all and is happy to propose a selection of local companies.

For your accommodation needs, the Château de Berne sleeps 38 people and has 19 charming bedrooms and suites which can be booked for your wedding at a 20% discount. A special exclusive use rate is also available if you wish to rent the entire hotel (2 nights minimum in low and mid season and 3 nights in high season).

In terms of pricing, the Château de Berne, as with the other venues located in Provence that I feature on My Riviera Wedding, is considerably more reasonable than other similar venues on the Cote d’Azur. The exclusive use fee for weddings on a Saturday ranges from 2100 Euros in low season to 3100 Euros in high season (if an outside caterer is used, rates increase by approximately 50%, great discounts are available for week days). Competitive total wedding planning packages are also offered including everything you need for a truly memorable wedding.

For more information and rates do not hesitate to contact Kerry @ My Riviera Wedding by email or leave a comment below. If you prefer to contact the Château de Berne directly, please don’t forget to mention that you found the venue on! By doing this you will be helping me to spread the word about my wedding planning activities.

The Château de Cremat is a venue for weddings and events which I do not have the impression is very well-known by the Anglophone population on the French Riviera. This is somewhat surprising as the venue ticks several boxes that foreigners often look for in a wedding venue in the South of France. First and foremost, the Château de Cremat is, as the name indicates, a castle. What’s more, the venue is also a wine producing domain with its own vineyards and excellent AOC wine. Finally, the Château has a great 360° view of the Cote d’Azur coastline over to the Alps in the North.

The venue is located in the hills above Nice, up a steep, windy road leading to the peaceful hilltop village of Cremat. The site was originally constructed on ancient Roman ruins at the turn of the 20th century in 1906. The Château has since been completely renovated and extensions have been built onto the original parts of the building.

The Château de Cremat has four main spaces which are hired out for wedding ceremonies and receptions. Firstly, the ‘Cour du Château’, a 600 metre squared terrace area with a tent structure and fountains, fantastic for outside dining and pre dinner campagne & canapés. Secondly, the Provencal gardens, located adjacent to the ‘Cour du Château’ provide shade in summer and an attractive area in which to meander and socialize with guests. The third space available for rent is the ‘Salle Antoine Mari’, an indoor, totally sound proof function room with a maximum seated capacity of 160 people  and 250 standing. Finally, the ‘Plein Ciel’ terrace, located on top of the Salle Antoine Mari offers fantastic panoramic views and is a great place for the obligatory photo session.

In summer, ideally a ceremony in the gardens or on the ‘Plein Ciel’ terrace would be followed by an aperitif in the ‘Cour du Château’, a dinner under the tent area on the ‘Cour du Château’ (170 maximum seated capacity), ended with a dessert buffet and disco in the Salle Antoine Mari.

Rates for exclusive use of the Château de Cremat vary depending on the day of the week, the season and the spaces rented. To give you an idea of price, the venue’s 2010 rental rates for weddings start at 3200 Euros for the privatisation of the ‘Salle Antoine Mari’, the gardens and terrace on a week day in low season from 15.00 in the afternoon until 3am (possibility to extend rental later than 3am at an additional hourly rate), excluding catering and all other services. The Château de Cremat prefers that clients drink the wine produced by the venue which, for weddings is reasonably priced at 16.50 Euros per bottle for the red, white and rosé varieties.

A little anecdote to finish off with… Legend has it that the original  Château de Cremat logo inspired Coco Chanel to create the famous Chanel logo (the two interlocking Cs). Coco herself reportedly spent a great deal of time at the Château which was owned by a friend of hers in the 1920s and supposedly asked the venue if she could use their logo for her new perfume. The CC logo can indeed be seen in many places around the venue, from the stained glass windows and the stone work to the door frames.

The Commanderie de Peyrassol is a wine producing estate in the Var region of Provence in the South of France located at just over 1 hours drive from Nice airport. The domain dates back to the 13th century when its vineyards were first used for the production of wine. Today, 800 years later, the estate still produces wine of an excellent quality using age-old artisanal techniques. The Commanderie de Peyrassol is also home to a huge collection of modern sculptures with its gardens full of fascinating works by celebrated contemporary artists. More importantly however, the Commanderie de Peyrassol with its fabulous function spaces is perfectly geared up for weddings.

I have not yet been to visit the Commanderie de Peyrassol but intend to do so very soon. I will of course update this post with more details following my visit. I can already tell you however that the private hire fee is fantastically reasonable at between 2,600 euros and 6,800 euros depending on the season and the day. For this price you have total exclusive use of the entire estate until 5am, tables and chairs for up to 180 people, full post event cleaning and a house manager on site for the duration of your wedding reception. In the meantime I will leave you with a few photos of this beautiful wedding venue in Provence.

Located in the countryside of the Var region in Les Arcs sur Argens at just under an hours drive from Nice Airport, The Château Font du Broc is a jewel of a wedding venue . The Château Font du Broc is a wine-producing estate and a stud farm for pedigree race horses with a beautiful inside/outside cloisters for ceremonies, 3 superb indoor function spaces and impeccably kept French-style gardens. The venue is not very well-known amongst couples coming from abroad to get married in the South of France as it is not yet marketed to an Anglophone market. Because the venue is in the middle of the countryside on a private estate, sound restrictions do not apply which means you can party until the early hours of the morning. The venue is located within a 10 to 15 minute drive from a 50 bedroom golf hotel which offers very reasonable group rates and good quality accommodation. There are also lots of small hotels and gites in the surrounding area. The nearest village; Les Arcs sur Argens is a medieval hill-top village with a few cafés and brassieres and a good boutique hotel with excellent restaurant. The area in which the Font du Broc is located is real Provence vineyard country without being too rural or secluded; all the necessary amenities like big super markets and shopping malls are all just a drive away. In short, the Château Font du Broc offers high-end, relaxed country chic in natural, tranquil surroundings.

‘Le Cloître with its exposed wooden beams, white pillars, chandeliers and Provencal terracotta floor, is the perfect space for ceremonies. With one side of the Cloitre being completely open, the space does not feel closed or stuffy. The Cloitre offers a sort of churchy feel in an outdoor setting.

Le Cloître

The ‘Salle Provence’ is a 150 metre squared reception room. With its terracotta tiles, golden-yellow, red and olive-green colour scheme, its name reflects perfectly the décor. The Salle Provence is commonly used as a back-up for pre-dinner drinks in case of rain, as a chill out area for people to get away from the music and dancing which usually takes place in the Salle du Chateau or alternatively as a crèche area for children. This space has a small kitchen and WCs on hand and is located right next to the Cloitre. It is for this reason that the Salle Provence is often used for the Bride to have any touch-ups before she walks down the aisle in the Cloitre.

The French gardens are beautifully green whatever the time of year and offer a perfect space for pre-dinner drinks and canapé receptions.

Chateau Font du Broc Gardens

The ‘Salle du Château’ is a large, luminous, grand 356 metre squared function room. The space is south-facing and opens out onto the French gardens. Taking its inspiration from 18th century nobel French architecture, the décor is classic, and  traditionally chic. There is a wooden dance floor in the centre of the room so there is no need to hire one in.

Last but by no means least, the ‘Salle Equestre’ or otherwise referred to as the ‘Manège’ is a large high ceiling space usually used for horse riding &  dressage training. This 640 metre squared majestic hall 600 people seated can be used for the largest of weddings.

The venue does not offer catering but is happy to work with the caterer of your choice. The venue obliges clients to drink the Font du Broc wine which is no bad thing at all as all three colours are really lovely – even the red which is unusual for a Cotes de Provence. What is more, the venue offers preferential rates for their wine. The Chateau Font du Broc’s wine cellar is just beautiful, couples are allowed to have portraits taken down there, this is something not to be missed.

If you are a wine lover, are looking for a chic, traditional venue with a rustic edge, want a real taste of Provence within a convenient drive time from a major airport and the coast, and think your guests won’t mind hiring a car if they want to get out and about and make the most of the local area, then this venue is definitely for you. I have organised one wedding at the Font du Broc and will be organising another one there in September 2012.
